I started off in magazine publishing -- first as a subscription manager at M&T Publishing (high-tech, vertical titles such as Dr. Dobb’s Journal of Software Tools); then graduated to Parenting magazine, a Time Warner publication.
At Time Warner, I learned both the art and science of direct response marketing-- from the industry’s best and brightest. From creative content, to print production, list acquisition to lettershop, ROI projections to final analysis, I did it all.
And I liked it.
I liked it so much, I struck out on my own. I formed AndreaLane & Co., and worked as Chief Writer and Creative Director, developing ads, direct mail, billing and renewal packages for a variety of publishers, companies and organizations-- including Macworld, Macy’s, The Red Cross, Sunset magazine, Forbes, Inc., Knowledge Learning Center… to name just a few.
Then I moved on. I was a copywriter for Visa’s ad agency, a marketing manager for an educational company, and a Marketing Communications Director for a boutique insurance company.
